1.        After each session, a rotation will occur in a counter-clockwise movement throughout the room.

a.        Independent work – students will put their work away

¨        in class binder or tray, depending on whether it is finished or not;

¨        carry their binder with them around the front of the room to their computer station; and

¨        stand to the left side of their computer seat if another student has yet to leave and wait patiently.

b.        Silent reading – students will put away the headphones, tape players, books, and tapes;

¨        restore pillows to blue carpet;

¨        place loose books in appropriate tray by genre;

¨        return audiotapes to their case and put case in the correct carton;

¨        return the tape player and headphone to the roll-away cart; and then

¨        take binder to their assigned seat and begin independent work.

c.        Computer – students will exit from their program, hook headphones and return the CD to its case;

¨        leave current session and completely exit the program;

¨        return computer to the sign-on screen or the desktop;

¨        hang headphones on the hook;

¨        put the CD back in the case in the numerically ordered slot;

¨        exit the chair on the right; and then

¨        move to the cart to get a tape player, headphone, tape, and book.

2.        Behavior points are awarded before the last rotation on calendars kept in student binders;

a.        The teacher keeps a behavior notebook for reward reference and participation grade verification;

b.        Points are determined on a scale of 1 – 5, with 5 being A+ behavior;

¨        pockets are posted on the wall underneath the front board;

¨        each pocket is designated with a student name and is filled with 5 numbered cards;

¨        each time a student is off-task or must be reprimanded, a card is withdrawn from their pocket, starting with card  #5, then #4, etc.;

d.        Students keeping 3 or more points a day on average throughout each month will receive a reward from a “grab box”;

e.        A behavior participation grade will be given at the end of the quarter based on the number of points possible and the average number determined for the quarter.

3.        At the end of the last rotation, students return their binder to their grade level shelf and turn in the Do Now or independent work to their class tray.

4.        Students return to the large group area for a wrap-up &/or a read aloud prepared by the teacher.

5.        Students are dismissed from the large group area a few at a time.
